There are simple instructions inside the archive that I used to get my 1670 Photo working. You don't have to join DropBox to download the file - close that dialogue window and download anyway. If you want to have another go at 'installing' the efsw41.bin file yourself go here and download the archive from there. That doesn't exist anywhere on my system, and I suspect not on yours. You can see from it that it appears the Image Scan for Linux thingy is expecting to be using the "epkowa" backend - it seems to me that is what is being implied. However, on the instructions page for that that method I note the following instruction. Can't comment on kyphi's suggestion as I haven't tried it yet (but I plan to later today, or tomorrow).

Then by following the instructions and some trial and error I finally understood how to get it working. Then it was only a matter of searching out more information before I finally found a set of instructions that I could half make sense of. Then I knew that the scanner would work in Mint. However, the following day I stumbled across VueScan and tried it - it worked the scanner fine. I spent nearly a whole day trying without success. When I first tried to get my Epson Perfection 1670 Photo scanner working nothing I did seemed to work. (If VueScan can't use the scanner that doesn't necessarily mean that your scanner won't work with Mint system - it just means for sure that VueScan can't use your scanner.) If you can scan from VueScan then at least you know for sure that in principle your scanner will work with your Mint system. Now open the VueScan folder and double-click on the "vuescan" (program) file. Now connect your scanner to the computer and switch it on. Once the archive opens just drag the whole VueScan folder out of the archive and drop it where you want. Once it's downloaded right-click on the file and select "Open With Archive Manager".

But for my scanner it didn't say Epson Perfection 1670 Photo either. Yes it doesn't say Epson Perfection 2480 Photo. (The file /etc/sane.d/nf doesn't exist on my system, Mint 17.3) In any case, on my system the scanner Epson Perfection 2480 is listed in nf, so that would be the backend you would want to use - you would want to alter the 'firmware' line in that file. I put the bin file (esfw30.bin) for my 1670 in /etc/sane.d folder, beside the backends - seemed to make more sense to me.Īlso note that when you give instructions to the scanner backend on where to find that binary file you would be altering the file /etc/sane.d/ nf. You don't have to locate the efsw41.bin file in the path those instructions indicate. 2480_Linux You can also download the binary file you need from there.
